SINGLE + SIDES

A board with passive speed generation. To suit fuller face waves.

I first shaped a 2+1 when I was transiting back to surfing from a knee reconstruction. I was riding long boards and gliders in baby waves, However I was now looking to create something for stronger waves that I did not need to keep active to generate speed. I shaped the board 1 1/2” wider and 3/8” thicker than more standard shortboard dims. To my surprise the board carried allot of passive speed and gave allot of push back through carves.

These boards are suited to more powerful waves harnessing the energy with a more relaxed rocker and increased foam throughout the board. The beaked nose and flat deck give you the feeling of sitting on top of the water rather than in it like a conventional short board, giving a feeling of trim and economy to speed generation. They don’t have the same get up and go speed like a twin or shortboard more starting in 2nd gear so would not be appropriate as a small wave board.

PERSONAL DIMENSIONS:
6’1” x 19 1/2” x 2 1/2”
6’6” x 19 1/4” x 2 1/2”
(Short board dims: 5’10” x 18 1/4” x 2 1/4”)

CUSTOM SB ORDER

ORDER PROCESS

Ordering typically begins with a face-to-face consultation at my studio in Bells Beach. Alternatively, the consultation can take part over email or a phone call. During this process we discuss all the adjustments needed to make the board specific to the surfer.
Turnaround time is around 8 to 10 weeks depending on current work load.

COLOUR

Colour work is a way for me to have a dual response to board expression. Studying Josef Albers ‘Interaction of Colour’ and working with my father Simon Buttonshaw and brother Raphael Buttonshaw, deepened my exploration of colour and its relationship to how surfboards look and feel in the ocean. We can discuss this further throughout the ordering process to find a colourway that connects with you.

FINS

Glide SBT mediums or larges. These fins have been designed to reduce the erratic nature of upright templates but gives you a more dynamic response than a directional keel fin. Because of this, I recommend that a stabilizer fin is not needed.
